Migration guide · Updated
Wix to Webflow migration the practical way
How it works, in short
Wix has no full-site export, so moving to Webflow means rebuilding the design in Webflow, exporting CMS collections as CSV, pulling blog posts from the RSS feed or by hand, re-hosting all images, and adding 301 redirects from Wix's /post/ URLs to your new paths. Most SaaS sites move in three to six weeks.
Teams usually leave Wix for Webflow when the site has to do more than look good: a growing blog, landing pages for campaigns, cleaner code for SEO, and designers who want full control.
Wix is a closed platform, so there's no export button for the whole site. That makes planning more important than usual. You'll rebuild the design and move the content deliberately, which is also a good opportunity to fix the information architecture.
Before you start
What moves, and what doesn't
Why teams move to Webflow
- Full design control and a component system for consistent pages
- A CMS built for marketing content: case studies, integrations, glossary
- Cleaner, lighter output for SEO and Core Web Vitals
- A deep pool of professional Webflow designers and agencies
- Pages
- Rebuilt in Webflow. Wix has no site export.
- Blog posts
- No native blog export. Use the RSS feed (/blog-feed.xml), a scraper, or copy posts manually, then import as CSV.
- CMS collections
- Export from the Wix CMS as CSV and import into matching Webflow Collections.
- Images
- Hosted on static.wixstatic.com. Download or import by URL so Webflow re-hosts them before you cancel Wix.
- Forms and automations
- Rebuild in Webflow or with your CRM's embedded forms.
- Apps (bookings, stores, members)
- No direct equivalent; replace with dedicated tools or embeds.
Step by step
How to migrate from Wix to Webflow
- Step 1
Inventory the Wix site
Because nothing exports automatically, the inventory doubles as your migration to-do list.
- Crawl every URL and record titles, descriptions and H1s
- Export Search Console data to identify pages that earn traffic
- List every Wix app in use and choose a replacement
- Export Wix's existing URL redirects from the SEO settings
- Step 2
Plan the new structure in Webflow
Wix blog posts live at /post/slug by default. Decide whether to keep a matching Collection slug or move to /blog and redirect.
- Map Wix pages and collections to Webflow pages and Collections
- Choose final URL patterns for blog, case studies and categories
- Add SEO fields to every Collection
- Step 3
Rebuild the design
Treat it as a redesign rather than a pixel copy. Wix layouts rarely translate cleanly into responsive CSS.
- Set up the design system: variables, type scale, classes
- Build global components and Collection templates
- Build and test static pages at every breakpoint
- Step 4
Move the content
Pull everything into CSVs, clean it, and import.
- Pull blog posts via RSS or a scraper into a CSV
- Export Wix CMS collections as CSV
- Import with image URLs so Webflow re-hosts assets
- Fix internal links that point at old Wix URLs
- Step 5
Redirect, launch and monitor
Point the domain to Webflow only once redirects are in place.
- Add 301s for /post/, /blog/categories/ and any changed page URLs
- Move DNS from Wix to Webflow and verify SSL
- Submit the sitemap and monitor 404s for two weeks
SEO preservation
Keep your rankings: map every URL
Most traffic lost in a migration comes from URLs that change without a 301 redirect. These are the Wix URL patterns we see most often and where they should go on Webflow.
| Old Wix URL | New Webflow URL | Note |
|---|---|---|
| /post/onboarding-emails | /blog/onboarding-emails | Wix's default blog path. One wildcard rule covers every post. |
| /blog/categories/product | /blog-categories/product | Or redirect to /blog if category pages had no traffic. |
| /blank-1 | /about | Auto-generated Wix slugs are common; give pages real URLs and redirect. |
| /copy-of-pricing | /pricing | Duplicated pages left live are worth consolidating. |
Wix → Webflow SEO checklist
- Export Wix's URL redirect manager list and re-create those rules in Webflow
- Redirect every /post/ URL to its new path with a wildcard rule
- Re-host every image from static.wixstatic.com before canceling the Wix plan
- Replace auto-generated slugs (/blank-1, /copy-of-…) with descriptive URLs
- Carry over SEO titles and descriptions from Wix's SEO settings for each page
- Transfer or re-point the domain carefully if it was registered through Wix
- Re-verify Search Console and submit the new sitemap
Typical timeline
- Inventory and planWeek 1Crawl, app inventory, URL map and CMS model.
- Design and buildWeeks 2–4Design system, templates and static pages.
- Content moveWeeks 3–5Blog and CMS export, clean-up and import.
- LaunchWeeks 5–6Redirects, DNS, QA and monitoring.
Timelines assume a typical SaaS marketing site and quick feedback. Large archives and heavy redesigns take longer.
Risks
What goes wrong, and how to avoid it
No export means posts get missed
Reconcile the crawl list against the imported Collection before launch.
Images break after the Wix plan lapses
Re-host all assets in Webflow and search post bodies for wixstatic URLs.
Domain registered at Wix delays DNS changes
Start the domain transfer or DNS access early, not on launch day.
Wix app features vanish (bookings, members)
Pick replacements during the inventory and test them on staging.
