Webflow to Framer migration and when not to

How it works, in short

To move from Webflow to Framer: check Framer's page and CMS limits against your site, export each Webflow Collection as CSV, rebuild pages and interactions in Framer, import the CSVs into Framer CMS collections, recreate SEO settings, and add 301 redirects for changed URLs (redirects need Framer Pro). Smaller sites move in two to five weeks.

Most Webflow to Framer moves are driven by design teams who want to iterate faster: Framer's canvas, components and motion defaults let a designer ship changes in hours. For a lean SaaS site that's a real win.

It isn't always the right move. Framer's CMS and page caps are lower, its SEO controls are less granular, and there's no automatic conversion of Webflow interactions. Check the fit before you commit.

Before you start

What moves, and what doesn't

Why teams move to Framer

  • Faster design iteration on a Figma-like canvas
  • Polished animation without custom interaction work
  • Real-time multiplayer editing for small teams
  • Lower plan costs for small sites
CMS Collections
Webflow exports each Collection as CSV. Import into Framer CMS collections and remap fields.
Pages and layouts
Rebuilt in Framer. There is no direct design conversion.
Interactions and animations
Recreated with Framer's effects and transitions. Often simpler in Framer.
Custom code embeds
Move to Framer embeds or React code components.
Forms
Framer forms or CRM embeds; reconnect routing.
Redirects
Export your Webflow 301 list and recreate it in Framer (Pro plan).

Step by step

How to migrate from Webflow to Framer

  1. Step 1

    Check fit against Framer's limits

Framer Pro includes 150 pages and 2,500 CMS items before paid add-ons. Count yours first.

    • Count static pages and CMS items per Collection
    • List reference/multi-reference fields and how they're used
    • Flag features without a Framer equivalent (complex filters, nested lists)
  2. Step 2

    Export Webflow data

Export every Collection and the redirect list before you start building.

    • Export each Collection to CSV from the Webflow CMS
    • Copy the 301 redirect list from site settings
    • Record SEO settings for static pages
  3. Step 3

    Rebuild in Framer

Rebuild the design system as Framer components and recreate interactions with Framer's effects.

    • Set up styles, components and breakpoints
    • Build CMS collection pages with matching URL paths
    • Recreate key animations and keep heavy effects off critical pages
  4. Step 4

    Import, redirect and launch

Import content, recreate redirects and switch the domain.

    • Import CSVs, then re-check rich text and images
    • Recreate existing and new 301s
    • Point DNS to Framer, submit the sitemap, monitor Core Web Vitals and 404s

SEO preservation

Keep your rankings: map every URL

Most traffic lost in a migration comes from URLs that change without a 301 redirect. These are the Webflow URL patterns we see most often and where they should go on Framer.

Example URL redirect map
Old Webflow URLNew Framer URLNote
/blog/onboarding-emails/blog/onboarding-emailsFramer lets you set the collection path; match Webflow's to avoid redirects.
/post-categories/product/blogIf you drop category pages in Framer, redirect them to the blog index.
/integrations/hubspot/integrations/hubspotKeep high-value programmatic pages identical, within Framer's CMS caps.

Webflow → Framer SEO checklist

  • Confirm your Framer plan supports redirects (Pro) before launch
  • Match collection URL paths to Webflow's so most URLs don't change
  • Recreate CMS-bound meta titles and descriptions on Framer collection pages
  • Check heading hierarchy on every template; Framer makes it easy to style a div as a heading
  • Re-add structured data via custom code
  • Compare Core Web Vitals before and after; trim animation on key landing pages if needed

Typical timeline

  1. Fit check and exportWeek 1
    Limits, Collection exports, redirect list.
  2. RebuildWeeks 1–4
    Components, templates, pages and animation.
  3. Import and launchWeeks 3–5
    CSV import, redirects, DNS, monitoring.

Timelines assume a typical SaaS marketing site and quick feedback. Large archives and heavy redesigns take longer.

Risks

What goes wrong, and how to avoid it

Hitting Framer's CMS or page caps

Count items first and budget for add-ons, or stay on Webflow if you're scaling content.

Weaker interaction metrics from heavy animation

Keep effects purposeful and test on mid-range mobile devices.

Losing complex CMS relationships

Flatten or rethink multi-reference fields before import.
