Webflow vs Squarespace when you outgrow templates

The short answer

Webflow is the better platform for a SaaS company. Squarespace is great for a quick, template-based site with no designer, but its limited CMS, layout control and custom code make it hard to run a growth-stage marketing site. Most SaaS teams that start on Squarespace move to Webflow by Series A.

Squarespace and Webflow are both hosted, no-code website builders, which is why they get compared. They are aimed at very different buyers. Squarespace is built so a founder can pick a template and be live by the weekend. Webflow is built so a designer can create any layout and hand it to marketers to run.

For a SaaS company, the website eventually becomes a product of its own: landing pages for campaigns, a blog that drives search traffic, integration pages, comparison pages and constant messaging tests. That's where the gap between the two opens up.

Pricing

What each platform really costs

Squarespace's Core plan (the first with code injection) is close in price to Webflow's Basic plan, and Webflow's Premium plan with a full CMS costs about the same as Squarespace Plus. Price is rarely the deciding factor; capability is. The real cost of staying on Squarespace is the landing pages and experiments you can't easily build.

Webflow pricing

Per-site hosting plan plus separate Workspace seats for designers and editors.

Basic
~$15/mo billed yearly
Static sites, no CMS. 300 static pages, 10 GB bandwidth.
Premium
~$25/mo billed yearly (~$39 monthly)
Replaced the old CMS and Business plans in 2026. 20,000 CMS items, 40 Collections, 50 GB bandwidth with paid add-ons.
Team / Enterprise
Custom
Publishing workflows, governance, localization at scale, SSO, SLAs.

Workspace seats, localization and bandwidth add-ons are billed on top of the site plan.

In detail

Where the differences actually show up

Design flexibility

Edge: Webflow

Squarespace's Fluid Engine lets you drag blocks around a grid within a section, which is a big improvement over its older editor, but you're still assembling pre-built section types. Distinctive layouts, product UI animations and component-based design systems are hard to achieve.

Webflow has no template ceiling. You build from divs, grids and classes, so a custom brand system translates 1:1, and global components (Webflow calls them components) keep hundreds of pages consistent. That's how SaaS sites look custom without being custom-coded.

CMS

Edge: Webflow

Squarespace has collection pages for blogs, events, products and portfolios, but you can't define your own content types with custom fields. Integration directories, case-study libraries with filterable metadata, or programmatic SEO pages are effectively off the table.

Webflow's CMS lets you design any content model (case studies with industry and metrics fields, integrations with categories and logos, a glossary, a changelog) and template each once. For a SaaS content strategy, this is the decisive difference.

SEO and performance

Edge: Webflow

Squarespace handles the essentials: editable titles and descriptions, automatic sitemaps, SSL, clean URLs and 301s via URL mappings. It's fine for ranking a small site. Control stops there: limited heading semantics, little control over generated markup, and structured data mostly what the platform outputs.

Webflow gives page-level and CMS-template control over meta, Open Graph, canonicals and schema, semantic tags on every element, and lean output for Core Web Vitals. If organic search is a channel you plan to invest in, Webflow removes the technical ceiling.

Integrations and marketing stack

Edge: Webflow

Squarespace bundles its own email campaigns, scheduling and commerce, which is convenient for small businesses. Embedding a HubSpot or Marketo form, a product-led signup flow, analytics tags and A/B testing scripts works on Core and above via code injection, but it's bolted on.

Webflow is designed to sit inside a SaaS marketing stack: native and app-based CRM form integrations, tag managers, Zapier/Make, a CMS API to sync content from your product or Airtable, and localization for international launches.

Ease of use

Edge: Squarespace

Squarespace wins here, plainly. A non-designer can produce a tidy site in an afternoon. If you need a credible placeholder while you find product-market fit, it's a sensible choice.

Webflow's Designer takes real learning, which is why most SaaS teams have a designer or agency build the site and system, then hand marketers the Editor, which is as simple as Squarespace for day-to-day copy and CMS changes.

Decision guide

When to pick each one

Choose Webflow if…

  • Your website is a growth channel, not a brochure
  • You need custom content types: case studies, integrations, glossary, comparisons
  • You have (or will hire) a designer or agency
  • SEO and conversion testing are part of the plan

Choose Squarespace if…

  • You're pre-product-market-fit and need a credible site this week
  • There's no designer on the team and no budget for one
  • The site is a few pages that rarely change
  • You're selling physical or digital products, not software subscriptions

Our verdict for SaaS

Squarespace for day one, Webflow for everything after.

We don't tell founders to avoid Squarespace. It's a fine first website. But once you have a marketing hire, a content plan or paid campaigns that need landing pages, Squarespace becomes the bottleneck. At that point, rebuilding on Webflow (or Framer for a smaller site) is one of the highest-leverage marketing projects you can run.

Website Rebuild

Rebuilding your site? Start on the right platform.

Our fixed-price Website Rebuild ships on Webflow, Framer or Next.js: positioning and sitemap workshops, three creative directions, and content migration with redirects handled. We'll recommend Webflow, Squarespace or something else based on how your team works, not on what we prefer to build.
