Framer vs Wix for startups and SaaS

The short answer

Framer is the better choice for startups and SaaS teams that want a modern, design-led site with great motion. Wix is better for small businesses that want booking, payments and email built in, or teams that need server-side code inside their builder.

Framer and Wix sit at opposite ends of the no-code spectrum. Wix is an all-in-one platform for millions of small businesses, with an app for everything. Framer is a design tool turned website builder, popular with startups, designers and product teams.

Wix Studio, Wix's professional editor, blurs the line by adding responsive layout tools and a developer platform. So the useful question isn't which one is more powerful. It's which one fits how your team works.

Pricing

What each platform really costs

Framer's site plans start around $10 a month and top out around $30 before add-ons; Wix's Premium plans run from about $17 to $159 a month billed yearly. For a SaaS marketing site, Framer is usually cheaper, unless you'd otherwise pay for separate booking, email and payment tools that Wix includes.

In detail

Where the differences actually show up

Design and motion

Edge: Framer

Framer is where many of the slickest startup sites of the past few years were built. Components, variants, scroll-linked animation and page transitions come standard, and the editor feels natural to product designers.

Wix's classic editor is drag-and-drop and approachable for anyone. Wix Studio adds responsive design tools and more advanced interactions, but most teams find Framer's design workflow faster and its motion defaults better.

Functionality and developer power

Edge: Wix

Wix is the more capable platform if you need functionality on the site itself: Velo lets developers write backend code, query a built-in database and create custom workflows, and the app market covers bookings, events, stores and memberships.

Framer keeps functionality lean. React code components handle interactive front-end pieces, and integrations cover forms and analytics, but there's no backend. For a SaaS company whose real product lives elsewhere, that's usually fine.

SEO and speed

Edge: Framer

Both can rank. Wix has invested heavily in SEO tooling and server-side rendering; Framer pre-renders pages and serves them from a CDN with relatively lean output. In tests, Framer sites tend to load faster, though animation-heavy pages need discipline to keep interaction metrics healthy.

Decision guide

When to pick each one

Choose Framer if…

  • Your site needs to look like a funded startup, not a template
  • Designers will own the site
  • Your stack already handles CRM, email and payments
  • You value speed of iteration on layout and messaging

Choose Wix if…

  • You want bookings, stores or memberships in the site builder
  • You need backend code and a database without separate hosting
  • Non-designers will build and maintain the site
  • You're running a local or service business

Our verdict for SaaS

Framer for startups; Wix for small businesses that need built-in tools.

For a SaaS company we'd pick Framer over Wix almost every time. If you're comparing both because you've outgrown a simple site and expect a real content program, also look at Webflow, which beats both on CMS scale and SEO control.

Website Rebuild

Rebuilding your site? Start on the right platform.

Our fixed-price Website Rebuild ships on Webflow, Framer or Next.js: positioning and sitemap workshops, three creative directions, and content migration with redirects handled. We'll recommend Framer, Wix or something else based on how your team works, not on what we prefer to build.
